Food photography by Jill Wellington is beyond the ordinary. Equal parts artist and technician, Jill’s compelling food photographs speak for themselves. Signature skills in lighting, an uncompromising eye for details, a high level of expertise in digital retouching – she is at the height of artistic photography. The role of the food stylist in the still life photography is dramatic: artfully arranging the food to translate the perception of taste, aroma and appeal that one gets from an actual dish, to a two-dimensional photograph. As a creative professional Jill envisions the finished photograph and style the food accordingly.
Everything is important in food photography: purchasing of the most visually perfect foods and ingredients; choosing and controlling lighting conditions; carefully setting the colour and texture of the background so as to present the food in an as attractive way as possible without distracting from it, and a lot more.
The recent prevailing trend in food photography is to present the food as simple, clean and natural as possible, often using effects such as selective focus, shallower angles, romantic lighting, narrow-angled shots, tilted plates, and extreme close-ups. Okay, like a famous proverb says “better to see once than to hear 100 times”.

About Jill Wellington

Let Jill talk: “I’m a journalist/author who raised two kids while reporting television news and writing books. My insanely zany life with hubby and two small children was cracking me up…mentally and mirthfully. That’s when I started writing a newspaper column called This is Life? I never had to pay for therapy. I spilled the entire mess into 500 words every week and they paid ME to release my insanity to the public. I had to stop when my daughter grew old enough NOT to want her hilarious happenings in the newspaper. Now I’m 59 and the kiddies are fully grown and have flown the coop. My photos have graced book covers, magazine covers and articles, an album cover, advertisements and websites all over the world! I love light, airy, dreamy, colourful and PRETTY! Check back often because I’m always adding new artwork.”
